Palomar Mountain – French Valley Trail
Enjoy peaceful forest and rolling meadow scenery plus an old weir site on this easy to moderate 3.7 mile hike. Most of the hike is on gentle level or sloping trails, but there are a few rock-hopping small creek crossings with some modest scrambles up and down to reach the creek beds. Plan to extend your stay after hiking and stop by the Boucher Hill Fire Lookout as you leave to take in the expansive western and southern views – the vistas alone are worth the drive! Wear sun protection and sturdy shoes. Bring sufficient water and if the weather turns warm your favorite bug repellant. Sorry, dogs are not allowed on the Palomar trail system.
Set your navigator to 34794 Doane Valley Road, Palomar Mountain, CA 92060 and meet at the Doane Pond parking lot at 7:45am – hike departs 8:00am sharp. Day pass costs $10 per vehicle.
Steady rain within 24 hours of start time cancels hike and notice will be given on our Facebook page. If you want an email notice of cancellation, email firstname.lastname@example.org at least two days before the event. Otherwise, pre-registration is not required and all are welcome.

PS – This is the hike where you might find banana slugs!! Your fearless leaders are Laury Flora and Lori Jacobs. If we’re extra lucky, we’ll get our very own Palomar Mountain State Park outdoor educator to help along the way.
PPS – The trailhead is located near the campground. There will be some Valley Center folks walking over to the hike straight from camping out the night before. Last I checked, there are still camp sites available for the night before the hike. It’s extremely tempting…
PPPS – As far as I know, Mother’s Kitchen is still closed. Bring your own coffee and snacks. Or donuts to share, if you’re really feeling generous…
