VCTA Rodriguez Mountain Hike

Rodriguez Mountain

Friday, March 24, 2023 – 8am

Join us for a special hike up Rodriguez Mountain. This is a six mile hike, round trip, with about 800 feet of elevation gain. The hike will take three to four hours and you should have recent experience hiking steep hills, and hiking continuously for two or more hours.

We are grateful to Joaquin Aganza, who will lead this largely unknown hike. The hike promises to be a rare treat, beginning in chaparral and ending in a Jeffrey Pine grove. Views of Rancho Guejito, San Diego, and the Coronado Islands are possible if it is a clear day.

Meet at the Hellhole Canyon Preserve parking lot; the hike will begin promptly at 8:05. Please allow ample time to get to the Preserve, as there have been significant construction traffic delays in Valley Center recently. The parking lot is at 19324 Santee Ln., Valley Center. Take Woods Valley Rd. for 3.9 miles. Continue onto Paradise Mountain Rd. for 3.3 miles. Turn right onto Los Hermanos Ranch Rd/Paradise Mtn Rd and immediately turn left onto Kiavo Rd. Take Kiavo Rd. for .5 miles to Santee Ln. and make a left to the preserve entrance.

Hikes are subject to cancellation if there is a heat warning in effect, if there is steady rain one hour before, or if there has been substantial rain during the 24 hour period before the hike, in the opinion of the Trail Master. If you want an email notice of cancellation, email anitanoone@gmail.com at least two days before the event. Otherwise, pre-registration is not required and all members and non-members are welcome. Please leave your four-legged friends at home. Questions: infovcta@gmail.com.
